AN INVENTOR WITH EXCEPTIONAL INTELLECTUAL ABILITIES
Born in Smiljan (Austria) on 10/07/1856, Nikola Tesla was an inventor of Serbian origin, known for his many inventions related to electrical energy.
Although he made his first inventions as a self-taught agriculturalist, he used his skills to gain admission to an engineering school, the Polytechnic of Graz, in 1875. There he studied physics, mechanics, and mathematics. This life choice distanced him from his family, as his parents wanted him to become a clergyman.
During his studies, Nikola Tesla discovered the principle of alternating current in 1884, which he would try to impose on Thomas Edison, whose employee he became in 1882. The two men would be in conflict all their lives, the latter being fueled by the fact that Nikola Tesla, very productive, saw some of his patents attributed to Thomas Edison.
He twice refused the Nobel Prize. The term "Mad Scientist" was coined for him. The Edison/Tesla conflict saw Tesla hired by the competition, George Westinghouse, allowing Tesla to impose the development of alternating current (which we use today) throughout the United States, where Edison wanted to impose direct current. Nikola Tesla is certainly known for this major invention, but he is also credited with many other creations. Thus, Tesla is the originator of radar, radio, neon lighting, and numerous other major discoveries. Nevertheless, this brilliant scientist did not receive, during his lifetime, all the recognition he deserved. He nevertheless left his mark on the world.
